        記者採訪時得知，因為於2019年在新潟站前殺害當時20歲的女性而被起訴的男性在監獄裡因病死亡。

 

        死者是被檢方依殺人等罪嫌起訴、居所不定、無業的齋藤涼介被告(26歲)。

 

        齋藤被告於2019年11月在新潟站前的大樓裡以菜刀多次捅刺當時20歲的女性進而殺死對方，故而遭到檢方起訴。

 

        齋藤被告的審判尚未開庭，目前仍在進行審判前的手續，但記者採訪警方等單位時得知，1月3日齋藤被告在新潟監獄裡死亡。

 

        新潟監獄表示，正在巡邏中的職員出聲叫喊在棉被裡的齋藤被告，但齋藤被告沒有回應，職員進行急救措施，最後確認齋藤被告已經死亡。死因疑似是急性腎衰竭。

 

        新潟地方法院表示，刑事案件的被告人死亡時，由法院判斷駁回公訴。
